Peach Ice Tea

Crystal Light. Love it. Tastes incredible. For those of you with my address, forget it, no more packages. Time is too short. Oh yes, you heard me correctly. Time is too short.

Of course, the Strykers have taught all of us in theater a valuable lesson in not counting your chickens before they hatch, and I have to say I feel sorry for those guys. Not that I want to develop a more intimate level of empathy by actually experiencing being extended. Just saying.

We've been busy, which keeps the minute hands moving. Most is still the same, it's hot and sunny, dust blows, etc. What's new are some units. The excitement for me isn't the new unit, it is getting to hear the bile that spews as soon as the outgoing unit departs on a plane.

Regular office politics are no different than Army office politics. It is funny, because you have to search to find officers that are openly acrimonious with each other, but behind closed doors most will do their damnedest to verbally eviscerate one another. It is petty and cheap, and at our level in the Army most of the anger is deployment based and will dissipate over time. But some biases will remain, and believe me when I tell you the Army isn't that large. Most officers are not nearly discriminating enough when it comes to who they choose to trash (and I'm definitely not immune, I've stuck that foot in my mouth a number of times), giving generally disinterested parties like myself the opportunity to be hugely amused by learning that MAJ Soandso thought that MAJ Whois was a Fing Asshole.

I've had some good laughs over it. And when I leave, people will come out of the woodwork to describe my jerk-like nature, my inability to sit in a meeting without rolling my eyes, my general lack of officer style decorum, my driving around on a little green Gator, and on and on. Things I don't know about that I do. It will all come out. But not to me, because logistics officers are too polite to be honest...which, ironically, frequently means they are too polite to be effective. And I won't care, because I won't be here. Plus it is probably all true.
