Beer for my horses

Yes, I am back in Iraq. Since I've been gone, a pool has been installed at my housing pad. Courtesy of another unit and their attached civilian contractors, we now have an above ground wading pool. It is a remarkably good looking product, I was quite impressed. Beyond that? SSDD.

The day after I was back in Q-West we had a Toby Keith concert. This, I must admit, was not my first Toby Keith concert. It was, however, my first sober Toby Keith concert. Quite a difference. I've noticed that there are quite a number of country music stars (and I'm really, really not a country fan at all) who make their way to Iraq on USO tours, as well as frequent visits by comedians. Rap and pop stars? Not so much. Wonder why that is? Surely a coincidence.

I'm getting back into the groove at work, which hasn't been hard as I'm supported by a great group of Soldiers and NCOs, and two very trustworthy subordinate officers. It was a huge blessing on leave, not having to worry about what was happening back here. Not that anyone should while on leave, but when you feel responsible for an activity or operation, the day to day concerns about quality and success don't go away when you get on a plane. Except on that day when we all get on the plane together, knowing that we are no longer responsible. That will be a good day.
